Homo est machina

USB plug behind the ear

The concept of the human being seen as a machinery is not a new one. But in spite of that, it is one of the most avoided ones when it comes to self development. So let’s take a closer look at it. There must be something about it, as this avoidance seems strikingly disturbing. The sentiment of freedom, knowing that we are acting freely, being able to decide about our lives - this is how we like to picture ourselves. Is this how we really are?

The Way of the Monkey

Why are personal development idea streams so popular? What kind of need are they feeding? There must be a need, there must be a demand since they are so popular. But is this need a natural one, a necessity? Or is it a created one, an artificiality? Maybe this is a question like ‘the chicken or the egg’, maybe there is an obvious origin for it. You tell me. But I would like to draw your attention to something commonly shared in all those personal development promptings.

Enlightenment just like in the movies

Peaceful Warrior

After being seemingly the second most praised movie on personal development blogs - the first being undoubtedly “The Secret” - I decided to watch “Peaceful Warrior”. Made after a book written by Dan Millman and according to the movie makers “inspired by true events”. I never had the chance to read the book, a chance that I never gave myself. As far it concerns the true events behind the story, it just made me curious to get on with watching it.
Now let’s get on with some comments on this movie.

How Thought Manifestation Is Done In Practice

The reality you live in is shaped by your own thoughts. Whether you approach this affirmation from a factual or an analytical angle, there is agreement on this. Thoughts have an essential characteristic: they tend to become palpable. They tend to condense, to show up in a form that is less abstract. They are urged to become as real as possible. Similarly to a seed that carries the potentiality of the tree within, thoughts carry the potentiality of showing up in front of the bodily eye. Should thoughts enter into your life by chance, by surprise, unexpectedly or on the contrary, you realize their imminence, even consciously bring them to life - is entirely your choice. Today I will give you my method of manifesting thoughts consciously.

Is Self-Help Overrated?

“Help yourself and God will help you”, goes the saying. I guess this is perfectly valid if you buy a digital camera for example. You can try very hard and by chance you may discover its features if you are the talented type. Otherwise you just have to read the provided instructions. This is valid when learning by yourself is usually more effective than praying. The importance of self help is undeniable these days. Actually there is a whole industry built around this recognition. The question arises: Isn’t this overrated? Is self help truly the only way to deliverance?

Big discount on wooden language available now

Whether you are opting for one method or another, it is the terminology by which you are introduced to it. Each method, each system that provides means for self development, has a certain terminology. Often a very specific one. Through terms you get to understand and apply what methods actually teach you. Terms are creating the frame. They are the most essential part of any method or system. The only problem with terms is that they tend to become petrified. They don’t sound any more like they used to. Can you recognize the first symptoms?

Peculiar disguises of the law of attraction

The big hype around the law of attraction will eventually cool down. It would be elucidating to see how many people of those who are LOA evangelists now, will have the perseverance in applying it continuously. How many of those who are preaching and teaching about it will become what they attract or will get what they attract? Will see that in the near future for sure. For today, I am going to write about how I met this law of attraction in different disguises before. I guess, this might even help clarifying the concept a little bit. Let’s see.

Who said that honesty pays?

As you know, the problem with truth is that it hurts sometimes. According to the song, it is love that hurts. But that is desirable. Not as in the case of truth. When you are engaged in a self developmental effort, truth and honesty get very personal concerns. Sometimes you have to face facts about yourself that you dislike. Being brought back to reality often spoils the fun. The fun of living in a dreamworld. In those moments, when you meet again those forgotten parts of yourself, truth is there. Dealing with it is difficult. Accepting it is hard. Why is that? Why it is so hard to receive something that you are actually looking for so desperately?
