For self development addicts.

The goal is the soul

We are experiencing times of increased need for meaning. The more mechanical our world is getting, the more thirst arises in our unconscious life. All to compensate the emptiness it leaves.

We all need a different kind of satisfaction, something lasting and fulfilling. Where to look for? How to look for? Is there a way that works for all?

In every process we presume an evolution in time. There are stages, there are converging and diverging points. These rules are also valid for the unfolding human quest.

Here are the 4 organizing principles of Vertegram as a personal development system:

1. Personal development leads to spiritual development.

The actual concept of personal development is rather new. It showed up as our cultural values got reorganized with more accent on being present in the material world. Personal development is a modern concept. Is what works for modern people.

Before, it was part of spiritual development. It was a stage of it. Of course today this is also valid, but they got apparently separated.

2. Spiritual development starts where personal development ends.

Spiritual development is much more about freeing yourself of boundaries. Personal development is about creating efficient boundaries. Defining yourself is crucial for self knowledge. Economizing your resources is crucial for personal effectiveness.

3. At their meeting point there is what we call “The Soul”.

Although we are using frequently the word to express many of our deep feelings and thoughts, it is important to actually have a clear vision on it. There are many approaches to the concept of the soul. What is important here for us it to see where it is placed in terms of personal and spiritual development.

  • For personal development, the soul is the potential of reaching the utmost in human life. It is the potential of completeness and maturity.
  • For spiritual development, the soul is the opening to greater potentialities. It is a pale reflection of them.

4. The goal of personal development is to reach the soul.

This could be well considered as an essence of human aspirations. On terms of defining the goal of personal development, this is where the road ends. From here, individual and separate life is not significant.

This is the stage of self actualization if you think of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. It is reaching the full potential that resides in our lives as individual human beings.

Understanding and remembering these 4 laws will help you in seeing through all personal development systems and methods. You will always be able to see how far this or that method can take you in your human quest.

Brilliant! Finally a clear definition/dinstinction of the two very important concept! Congrats for the blog, it seems to me that you have really clearified concepts in your head.

There are only a few (almost none) really good blogs on personal development topics. Hope you will continue this well defined path and conception! Good work!!

kulcsi, thanks for your encouraging words!

As far as it regards my take on self development, I consider these 4 principles as the very basics.

From your comments it seems to me that you agree with this organization of self development. Yes, I think it is crucial to make these distinctions.

Anyway, I presume this can give room to lots of further question. Like why spiritual development doesn’t include personal development, or is it possible to start directly the spiritual path? These should come naturally because we are used to think like this about the possibilities of self development.

Yes, I agree. I thing the distinction must be done between personal and spiritual development. You have pointed very well that personal development is much more about creating boundaries, and spiritual development is more about freeng yourself from these boundaries. The former is about creating a healty ego, the latter is about transcending it. I think it is very important to realize that nobody can trancend without having a well organized ego!

I was interested in your view of personal and spiritual development. I particularly enjoyed your message that the goal of personal development is the soul. This fact is so often overlooked in many of the personal development tools in the Western world. In my recent article about Spiritual and Personal Development at scienceofenergyhealing.com, I suggest the importance of personal and spiritual development being in sync, and that when they are not, life can get very difficult.
