For self development addicts.

Where does it lead you?

There are several questions you should ask before starting to devote to the recipes of a personal development system. The most important question is: Where does it lead you?

The road starts with a first step, but can you be sure you are making it with the right foot?

The sense of purpose

If you see clearly the destination target, you will know if this is the direction you want to follow. The method is only the way that leads you to the goal. It is not the goal. And you are after the goal. You should remember this before you start defending it if someone disagrees on its principles.

Here is how to recognize the goal of the method you are presented to:

  1. The easy way. Look for a clear definition of the goal. If you can’t find it in the provided literature, ask for it.
  2. The hard way. If you still don’t have the answer, try to define it yourself after diving a little into the literature or teachings. When you feel like knowing enough of the basics of the method, take your time and define the goal.

Lessons learned or wasted time?

Remember, the more clear you see where it leads you, the more safe you are on the way to change yourself, your life. This is not a game, (at least not a common one), so consider this first step as the most important investment you are making in your transformational effort. It’s not the biggest, but it’s the most important.

There is no waste of time in general, because you are supposed to learn even from your mistakes. But how much time can you afford to waste?

I’ve seen many people not considering this very first step. I have also made this mistake, not once, until I realised how important this is. Can you admit that this happened to you too? I would like to hear your conclusions on this.

Welcome my friend to your new blog!

I hope it is going to be a great experience both for you, and your readers!

However, I think different about time :)

I really liked my friend, James Brausch’ points on this topic:

‘Money does grow on tress’ - you can get plenty of it
‘Time doesn’t grow on trees’ - this is our most precious resource… so we should get to spend it wise!

    Cheers!

Hi Miklós, glad to see you here! Thanks for the good wishes! Let’s hope for the best!

Agree on getting wise in terms of time economy. It just differs in terms of weight when you consider the amount spent for moneymaking and the amount spent for transforming yourself.

    Hi Attila,

Let’s take a look at time: you can’t manage time, as most ‘experts’ call it ‘time management’. The fact is, you can’t do anything with time… time goes by.

What is time, really? Your time = your life!
Thinking about wasting time = wasting your life… For example, reading the news, about all the bad things out in the World is completely a waste of time… So does watching sitcoms which make fun about how miserable people can be.

That does not mean you can’t watch an inspiring film… Talking about films, maybe I should take a look on the one you recommend on the side? :)

Improving yourself is your time/life well invested… As money grows on trees… you don’t have to dedicate your time to ‘make money’.
